Disruptive behavior, anticoagulants on JCAHO’s list of possible 2008 National Patient Safety Goals

Accreditation Connection, October 9, 2006

Seven topics will likely be presented to the field for a review as the JCAHO begins narrowing its list for 2008 National Patient Safety Goals.

The topics were revealed in the accreditor's September issue of the free, electronic newsletter, JCAHOnline, posted to the JCAHO Web site on October 2. They include the following, some of which were also released for field review last year but did not make the 2007 list:

  • disruptive behavior
  • anticoagulant management
  • early recognition and response
  • catheter misconnections
  • use of technology for patient identification
  • healthcare worker fatigue
  • obstructive sleep apnea

The field review will be posted in early December.
