When to start planning for flu season
Accreditation Connection, May 15, 2006
Flu season usually begins in October, but it isn't too early now to begin planning for it by stocking supplies and preparing staff, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
"We recommend that hospitals plan next season's influenza program in late February and March of that year," says Michele Pearson, chief of the CDC's prevention and evaluation branch.
"If it's already in place when a pandemic occurs, you've worked out barriers and have already thought about it ahead of time."
