The signs in your facility that should be continuously updated

Accreditation Connection, April 17, 2006

Some signs in a hospital will rarely change. It's unlikely that the emergency department will suddenly switch its location, but the hours that certain entrances are open can vary by season or because of construction.

If you have signs that direct patients to a particular entrance, and that entrance is closed, your visitors may become frustrated or even lost.

Other signs that may change frequently include those indicating

  • staff directories
  • construction zones
  • special event locations
  • hospital policies (e.g., visitation policies, or smoking bans)
