Tip for tackling competency assessment
If you're trying to streamline your facility's competency assessment program, start by tackling vague and broad language in your checklist, says Sally Strong, RN, APN-CNS, CNRN, CRRN, clinical nurse specialist and staff educator at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in Wheaton, IL
Make the checklists more specific and therefore more useful for assessing staff competency, says Strong. For instance, "caring for a spinal cord injury patient" would include different types of transfer techniques.
