Use an algorithm for RRT calls

Accreditation Connection, March 3, 2006

A simple one-page chart can help staff when they need to call a rapid-response team. At Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, Executive Director of Continuing Medical Education Della Lin, MD, has developed a one-page algorithm to help clarify when to call the RRT or the code team.

The chart was developed to help the staff understand the process used to call an RRT. Even after thorough training, the rules that govern the use of RRTs are often complicated or vague. The chart is updated to reflect changing hospital policy on RRTs and codes.
