Can you hire a former employee to do inpatient audits?
Accreditation Connection, February 24, 2006
Hiring a former director of your coding department would be a conflict of interest and would not be considered a best business practice, says Joe Rivet, CPC, CCS-P, compliance specialist, Office of Corporate Compliance, Henry Ford Health System. The Health Care Compliance Association might have some articles referencing this type of situation. But billers, PFS personnel do not perform audits internally. The reason is that they come from a financial perspective and if you were ever audited by an external agency they would see this as a red flag. This could be misconstrued as this person manipulating or altering audits, bills etc. for financial gains.
