JCAHO makes efforts to avoid needlestick injuries

Nearly 80% of 400 surveyed nurses caring for patients with diabetes reported at least one needlestick injury each year, according to a new study published in the most recent edition of Current Medical Research and Opinion.

Organizations such as the JCAHO and OSHA are working together to provide a safe environment for healthcare workers. JCAHO issued an alert to improve healthcare facility compliance with provisions of the Needlestick Safety and Prevention
Act, which was signed into law in 2000.
