JCAHO seeks input on disaster privilege standards
Accreditation Connection, June 13, 2005
The JCAHO is conducting an online field review through July 12 on two draft human resource (HR) standards.
HR.1.25 and HR.4.35 address privileging and credentialing for volunteer practitioners and volunteer licensed independent practitioners in the event of a disaster.
According to the accreditor's Web site, the standards were prompted by the events of 9/11. The background for both standards is explained on the site as follows: "In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, attacks, it has become apparent that healthcare organizations need to be able to effectively and efficiently process qualified volunteers who offer their services to an organization following a disaster."
