JCAHO reports on annual surveyor conference

Accreditation Connection, February 21, 2005

The JCAHO says the purpose of the annual surveyor conference is to assist surveyors in better scoring elements of performance (EPs), help them understand the evolution of EPs, and develop system tracer skills.

Specifically, the JCAHO says the following were discussed at the conference and are goals for what the JCAHO will do in 2005:

Refining the EPs and scoring guidelines to improve clarity and objectivity
Refining the systems tracer, now called the patient systems tracer, to be more patient care driven
Developing surveyors' skills in using tracers to "accurately provide a comprehensive and full analysis of an organization's actual implementation of the standards in the delivery of care"
