The AAAHC announces a new, free accreditation guidebook for eligible managed care organizations
The Accreditation Association just released its 2004 Accreditation Guidebook for Managed Care Organizations. Developed to provide guidance to managed care organizations on how to meet Accreditation Association standards, the Guidebook provides applicable standards, review guidelines, and an assessment portion, which provides information on what Accreditation Association surveyors will look for when determining compliance to the standards.
New to the 2004 Guidebook is an assessment tool developed to assist organizations in evaluating their own compliance to the Accreditation Association standards. For a limited time, the Accreditation Association is offering this book free to managed care organizations that are eligible for AAAHC accreditation. Requests for the publication should be sent to info@aaahc.org, by December 1, 2004. After December 1, this publication can be ordered from the AAAHC Web site at http://www.aaahc.org, for $115.

The Guidebook provides a comprehensive list of the Accreditation Association's standards that are applicable to a managed care organizations and include the following:

* Governance
* Assignment of Credentials
* Administration
* Quality of Care Provided
* Quality Management & Improvement
* Clinical Records and Health Information
* Professiona! l Improvement
* Facilities and Environment
* Managed Care Organizations
* Health Education and Wellness Services
Also included in the Guidebook is the assessment tool; a clinical record worksheet; a provider site review worksheet; and a credential record worksheet. In addition, the Guidebook contains information regarding AAAHC policies, including the Right of Appeal and Right of Reconsideration. Organizations can also review the changes to the standards that have occurred since the publication of the 2003 edition of the Guidebook.
