Accreditation

We have a manager who assesses age-specific competency of staff. Does the manager need to be evaluated annually for age-specific competency?

Accreditation Connection, August 27, 2004

Not necessarily, says Steve Bryant, practice director of accreditation services at the Marblehead-based consulting firm, The Greeley Company, a division of HCPro.

You define the qualifications of the individual reviewing staff. For example, if the vice president of nursing is no longer providing clinical care, he or she has clinical competence to evaluate someone, even if his or her evaluation tool does not have age-specific competencies. This is because they are no longer managing, assessing, and treating patients.
