Use fact sheets to train staff on infection control issues
Accreditation Connection, December 5, 2003
There are several different methods for teaching staff about infection control issues, including self-education booklets and fact sheets. Fact sheets are typically one page in length and highlight the most important information on a particular topic.
Fact sheet subjects could include hot topics in the news such as the West Nile virus, isolation precautions in the wake of bioterrorism threats, or the JCAHO or the Centers for Disease Control focus areas, such as proper hand hygiene.
Self-education booklets typically consist of two to four pages of information in an easy-to-read, 4-in x 5-in format, with a self-graded quiz at the end. This is a very effective way to reeducate staff or prepare them for the JCAHO survey. Click here to read more about how to use fact sheets in training. The cost is $10. Briefings on Infection Control subscribers have free access with their subscriptions.
