The Joint Commission updated five requirements for accredited nursing care centers. The five elements of performance (EPs) were updated after nursing care centers requested clarity on existing EP language. Updates include the following:
• National Practitioner Data Base (NPDB) will contain all pertinent information regarding independent practitioners providing care
• Each nursing care center should have a tool to evaluate the safety and quality of care provided
• Skin evaluation should be included in the initial assessment of new patients and residents
The revisions are effective January 1, 2016.
