CDC vows to change Ebola hospital procedures

CDC Director Thomas Frieden, MD, said his agency is working to improve the way hospitals handle Ebola infection control, including how workers put on and remove protective equipment, according to HealthLeaders Media. The comments come after a Texas Health Presbyterian nurse tested positive for Ebola after treating an infected patient who later died.

The CDC is reviewing procedures involving the removal of healthcare workers’ protective equipment in the isolation area. Frieden said the measures are intended to reduce the risk that worker would unintentionally contaminate themselves.
