Joint Commission posts "Sudden Cardiac Arrest Initiatives" publication
Accreditation Connection, August 19, 2011
The Joint Commission unveiled this week a free PDF publication entitled “Sudden Cardiac Arrest: Meeting the Challenge.”
The monograph, intended for a wide audience including both caregivers and those who have experienced sudden cardiac arrest, is the results of a Technical Advisory Panel research project, ongoing since 2009, which has identified and explored the implementation of potential performance measures for the treatment of cardiac arrest patients.
Sudden cardiac arrest is the cause of over 350,000 deaths in the US every year, many of whom show no signs of risk or have any history of cardiac disease. To combat this vast issue, three corporations, Medtronic, St. Jude Medical, and Boston Scientific, provided an unrestricted educational grant to The Joint Commission to develop performance measures and a monograph on the topic.
The PDF can be downloaded on The Joint Commission’s website here.
