Joint Commission continues telemedicine discussion with CMS

The Joint Commission stated this week that is has submitted proposed changes to its standards related to telemedicine to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
After reviewing the standards and Elements of Performance dealing with telemedicine, it was determined that some minor revisions still remained to bring Joint Commission requirements in line with CMS Conditions of Participation. According to The Joint Commission’s most recent statement, these changes are expected to be minor and will be communicated to the field as soon as they are available, most likely in the fall, The Joint Commission states.
These changes effect hospital and critical access hospital programs. Complete details can be found on The Joint Commission’s website.
