Field review opened for proposed revised EPs targeting pediatric care
Accreditation Connection, July 15, 2011
The Joint Commission on Friday opened up a field review of proposed revised and new Elements of Performance (EP) which would, if implemented, be relevant to pediatric care services in the hospital program.
The EPs come as part of an improvement process on the part of The Joint Commission based on feedback from customers and Joint Commission staff about specialty areas in need of greater specificity. Areas of pediatric care the proposed standards discuss are:
- medication management
- pain management
- patient safety and security
- competency specific to the provision of care for pediatric patients
- transitioning pediatric patients to adult care
- patient falls
A review of these areas led to several proposed revisions to existing EPs and one new proposed EP. Comments will be accepted until August 18, 2011.
