CMS seeks input on new medication measures
Accreditation Connection, April 28, 2011
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is working with Florida Medical Quality Assurance Inc. (FMQAI) to craft and maintain medication-related quality measures, an official announcement stated this week.
The collaboration has developed a set of seven new medication measures using Medicare administrative claims data. These measures are drawn from the Institute of Medicine domains of safety and effectiveness and specifically focus on improving medication adherence, appropriateness of therapy, and patient outcomes, the official announcement says. The medication measures have been specifically developed for state and plan-level measurement. CMS has said that they will be evaluated for additional settings such as physician offices.
Public comment on the measures will be accepted through May 11, 2011. Comments can be made by clicking here. If this link does not work, you can also copy and paste the following URL into your browser.
