Boston hospital admits three spinal surgery errors in two months
Accreditation Connection, January 7, 2011
Boston’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is in the spotlight after its surgeons made errors in three separate spinal operations since September, 2010.
Though steps were provided to the hospital to prevent these errors, they were not met, prompting state and federal health inspectors to take a closer look at Beth Israel’s surgical centers, reports The Boston Globe.
According to the Globe report, “wrong level” spinal surgery is one of the most common medical errors. Between 2006 and 2008, only 11 spinal sugery errors were reported in Massachusetts.
