It’s Time to dust off staffing effectiveness: Implementation Date July 1, 2010

Part 3 of 5

On July 1, 2010, the Joint Commission resumed surveying for the new version of Staffing Effectiveness. So, what does that mean to health care organizations? Keep it simple and address the needs of your organization.

Step #2: Ensure adequacy of staffing is addressed when processes fail or downward trends are noted such as an increase in medication error rate or patient falls.

As appropriate, include the review of both staffing volumes and other factors such as competency (if appropriate) when reviewing potential or identified failure. Simply add this as a review indicator when performing the assessment or root cause analysis.
