CMS proposes two hospital-acquired infection measures

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has published a notice of proposed changes to the inpatient prospective payment systems (IPPS), according to an official statement on its website.
These proposed changes include language for adoption of two healthcare acquired infection (HAI) measures: central-line associated blood infections (CLASBI) and surgical site infections (SSI). These would be collected through the National Health Safety Network and entered into the Reporting Health Quality Data for Annual Payment Update program for the 2013 fiscal year’s payment determination.
