Medical Staff standard MS.01.01.01 has undergone quite a journey over the years. The standard, once known as MS.1.20, addresses medical staff bylaws. According to The Joint Commission, the purpose of this standard is to improve patient safety and quality of care by influencing the relationship between the hospital’s governing body and its medical staff. The key words to look for when addressing this standard, in Joint Commission standards terminology, are “positive” and “well-functioning.”
