A look at CMS' newest anesthesia standards

The new guidelines contain information on the supervision of a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA). They also include the supervision of anesthesiology assistants (AA) for those states that recognize this category of healthcare workers. Some states have opted out of the supervision requirement, meaning that the CRNA does not need any physician supervision. A list of the 14 states that have opted out is now available on the CMS Web site.
