CNN poll reveals majority of adults do not want H1N1 vaccine

Accreditation Connection, November 23, 2009

The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey revealed that more than half of all American adults do not want the H1N1 vaccine, according to CNN.com. The survey also reveals more adults were turned away when attempting to get the vaccine, than those who have actually received it.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends those in the high risk groups receive the shot because they have a higher risk of complications than those that are not included. Following CDC's recommendation, one in four Americans do not plan to get the shot because they do not fall into one of these high-risk groups.

The high-risk groups include pregnant women; caregivers and household contacts of children younger than 6 months; everyone between the ages of 6 months and 24 years; and people ages 25 to 64 with existing health problems.

The survey was conducted between November 13 and 15, with 1,014 adult Americans questioned over the telephone.
