HHS launches online guide to promote data standards for newborn screening
Accreditation Connection, September 21, 2009
An online guide has been launched by the Department of Health and Human Services' National Library to facilitate the use of electronic data standards for newborn screening test results, according to the AHA News. The Newborn Screening Coding and Terminology Guide Web site includes standard codes for terminology for newborn tests, conditions for which newborns are screened, and also provides links to other related sites.
Also available on the site are a series of tables that can be viewed or downloaded for personal use. The tables include codes and vocabulary standards that cover conditions recommended for screening by the Advisory Committee on Heritable Disorders in Newborns and Children or by a state within the U.S.
The Web site was created in collaboration with the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, Health Resources and Services Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with others.
