Maintain survey readiness: A primer

Part 4

Whether you have a committee for oversight or the leadership functions as this body, keep the hospital leadership continually updated on progress. Remember the philosophy is not to have any surprises. You must communicate issues of noncompliance that are not being resolved. If you know of problems and you do not pass such items up the chain of command, then you become part of the problem. Be prepared to answer questions from leadership about how likely it is that the non compliant issues will be identified in an actual survey if they are not corrected.

Be sure to establish a positive relationship with your Joint Commission account representative.

Consider this individual to be your door into The Joint Commission. Consult with your account representative and maintain notes of these conversations. Ask for assistance when communications from The Joint Commission are not clear or understandable, but do this in a professional and polite manner.
