Joint Commission seeking comments on proposed requirements
Accreditation Connection, June 15, 2009
Now through July 10, the Joint Commission will be accepting comments on its proposed changes to its staffing effectiveness requirements for hospitals and long-term care organizations, according to AHA News.com. The Joint Commission proposes two new "elements of performance" and is also seeking different approaches to evaluating staff effectiveness.
For public review, the Joint Commission also released proposed new standards to advance effective communication, cultural competence, and patient-centered care. These new standards were developed with the help of an advisory board that included John Swedish, president of Michigan-based Trinity Health and chairman of the board for AHA's Institute for Diversity in Health Management.
Feedback is being accepted for six weeks and the new proposed requirements could take effect as early as January 2011.
