New CMS Conditions for Coverage take effect

As of May 18, Medicare-certified ambulatory surgery centers (ASC) must meet the latest revisions to the Conditions for Coverage (CfC), which include new requirements about infection control, patient rights, and patient admission, assessment, and discharge.

In addition, all ASCs undergoing an Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC)/Medicare deemed status survey after May 18 must demonstrate compliance with all CfCs, regardless of when the ASC submitted its application to AAAHC or whether the survey is conducted under 2008 or 2009 standards, according to a notice on the AAAHC Web site.
