The board?s role in conflict-of-interest situations

What is conflict of interest and why is it important? Isn’t it just a concern of the board of directors/board of trustees? Whenever decisions are being made for the organization or for an individual patient, these decisions should be unbiased.
If the potential for personal or financial gain is possible for the individuals making the decision, it is not an unbiased one. And potential conflicts of interest are not uniquely the province of board members.
But the standard was first written to address conflicts of interest at the board level and members of the board remained the focus until very recently.
