In our April column, we took a look at the changes released earlier this year by The Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO) as it works to line up its standards more closely with CMS requirements.
Since that column appeared, two new sets of changes have occurred:
- On March 26, an updated list of standards was released, reducing the number of new and revised elements of performance (EP) from 165 to 87. This occurred after discussions between The Joint Commission and CMS uncovered that the now-removed EPs were addressed elsewhere in already-existing Joint Commission standards.
- On April 7, an updated version of the March revisions was released. This time, there were no changes to the EPs or standards, but rather, scoring guidelines were released, revealing A and C EPs, documentation requirements, and more.
