South Carolina hospitals turning to DNV for accreditation

Accreditation Connection, May 11, 2009

The first hospital in South Carolina to make the switch from Joint Commission accreditation to Det Norske Verita (DNV) is Cannon Memorial in Pickens County, according to Greenville Online. "We needed a system that we could tailor to our hospital and felt like DNV was that program," says Pam Abercrombie, director of quality.

DNV Healthcare is a division of Houston-based DNV USA, a subsidiary of the Norwegian company Det Norske Veritas that combines CMS' Conditions of Participation with ISO 9001 quality management. The program, called National Integrated Accreditation for Healthcare Organizations (NIAHO), was created with the goal of streamlining the accreditation process and identifying means for improving standards and promoting continual improvement.

According to Darrel Scott, senior vice president of DNV told Greenville Online, they have accredited more than 20 hospitals since they gained deeming status.
