The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued a proposed rule updating inpatient rehabilitation facility payment rates, for fiscal year 2010. The proposed rule suggests an update of 2.4% along with raising the inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) outlier threshold to $9,976.
In addition to the proposed rule, CMS has also said they plan to include Medicare Advantage patients in the assessment of compliance with the "60% rule." By doing so, this will now require IRFs to assess the additional group of patients.
Draft revisions to the IRF criteria in the Medicare Benefit Policy Manual have also been issued by CMS. CMS will be accepting comments through June 29 at MBPMComments@cmh.hhs.gov, and a final rule will be issued by August 1, and any changes should be in effect October 1.
