Screening guidance for H1N1 flu issued by CDC

Accreditation Connection, May 4, 2009

With over 100 confirmed cases of the swine flu in 11 states, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has issued temporary guidance for infection control to facilities and hospitals with confirmed, probable, or suspected infected patients of the virus.

The temporary guidance covers screening patients for the virus, isolation precautions, respiratory protection for health care personnel, and managing visitors. The CDC also suggests placing any patient suspected, probable or confirmed of having the virus in their own room with the door closed, with staff members following the suggested precautions.

The Department of Health and Human Services has also informed states that funding for any emergency response activities related to the outbreak may be taken from its Hospital Preparedness Program.
