: In 2009, three infection control goals were added to the National Patient Safety Goals list: Prevent healthcare-associated infections due to multidrug-resistant organisms (MDRO), prevent central line?associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI), and prevent surgical site infections (SSI). As seen with some of the previous goals, such as improving recognition of patient condition changes (rapid response) and anticoagulation, quarterly milestones are required to help your organization move toward full compliance by January 1, 2010.
