Joint Commission renews deeming authority for hospice

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has renewed the deeming authority status for The Joint Commission for hospice organizations, The Joint Commission has announced.
CMS has renewed this deeming authority status for the maximum-allowed six-year term. According to a report from the Hospice Association of America, CMS-certified hospices have increased from 31 in 1984 to more than 3,000 as of January 2008.
