Lax attitudes linked to the spread of deadly hospital infection

How much does attitude have to do with infection rates? Quite a bit, according to a recent USA Today editorial. Despite the fact that the Center for Disease (CDC) has 1,200 practices to help prevent such outbreaks, failure to comply with such practices is a significant factor in why medical professionals are unable to protect the patient's safety, the author writes.

Healthcare-associated infection-related deaths have claimed more lives than the total deaths caused by AIDS, breast cancer and motor vehicle accidents combined. The Centers for Disease Control 2002 study estimated that 1.7 million people suffer from care-related infections, and nearly 100,000 deaths resulted from these infections.
