The Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research (AHRQ) has made available a new evacuation planning tool to help healthcare facilities for evacuation situations during a disaster or other emergency.
The AHRQ tool, titled Mass Evacuation Transportation Planning Model, is designed to help hospitals determine the time it would take to transport patients to another facility, establish needs such as vehicles and staff, and methods for working with constraints of the receiving facility. The tool was created using funds from the departments of Health and Human Services and Homeland Security, and has been pilot tested in New York and Los Angeles.
It can be found online here.
