The Joint Commission has attempted to clear up several points of confusion surrounding Universal Protocol requirements with the release of the most recent set of FAQs in November 2008.

The FAQs address confusion among healthcare and accreditation professionals specifically regarding 2009 National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG) requirements. “The FAQs posted on November 5 are excellent,” says Elizabeth Di Giacomo-Geffers, RN, MPH, CNAA, BC, CSHA, a healthcare consultant in Trabuco Canyon, CA. “They have provided more clarification in areas that were not clear before.”
