Building a better FPPE program

When The Joint Commission implemented focused professional practice evaluations (FPPE) in January, Carlotta Rinke, MD, FACP, MBA, assistant vice president of quality and patient safety at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, IL, was ready.
In August 2006, Rinke spoke with consultants and held a leadership meeting to discuss Alexian Brothers’ current peer review process.
“At our peer review sessions, physicians weren’t required to attend, and there was a loss of interest in inter-departmental activities,” Rinke says.
