HHS releases guidance on healthcare workers during flu pandemic

Accreditation Connection, December 18, 2008

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) believes healthcare workers and other emergency personnel should receive antiviral drugs for protection during a flu pandemic, according to a recent HHS report.

The report also suggests that employers should be responsible for maintaining a stockpile of antiviral drugs for this purpose, as well as to protect nursing home residents, patients with weakened immune systems, and others exposed to pandemic flu.
