Joint Commission report shows improvements in safety and quality

American hospitals have demonstrated significant gains in patient safety and quality of care over the past six years, according to a new report by The Joint Commission.
The report, Improving America’s Hospitals: The Joint Commission’s Annual Report on Quality and Safety 2008, examines quality measures for such areas as surgical conditions, pneumonia, and heart attacks. Twenty-five individual quality measures were examined in more than 3,000 hospitals nationwide.
