The Joint Commission has issued an official response to an announcement to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in the Federal Register on the use of standing orders in hospitals.
According to an official press release, The Joint Commission applauds the actions of CMS. The Joint Commission requested the clarification to bring the two organizations’ interpretations on the use of standing orders into alignment. The issue focused particularly on how to facilitate the timely treatment of specific patients, such as those patients requiring medications that had not been previously ordered to be delivered in a short timeframe.
