Aon provides HAI benchmark analysis
Accreditation Connection, October 3, 2008
With Medicare ceasing to reimburse 10 specific hospital acquired conditions, or “never events,” Aon released its 2008 Hospital Professional Liability and Physician Liability Benchmark. The report found one out of every six claims can be accredited to hospital acquired infections, injuries, objects left in after surgery, and pressure ulcers, the Associated Press reports.
The report includes data on loss and exposure from more than 100 healthcare organizations, representing 1,200 facilities. It also has 77,705 claims, which represent $9.3 billion of incurred losses and contains historical claims information for the past 10 accident years (1998-2007).
