AHRQ awards $3 million contract to reduce central line catheter infections

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) awarded a contract of nearly $3 million to continue the work started by the John Hopkins University in Baltimore and the Michigan Health and Association in regards to infections related to the use of central line catheters.
According to the Centers for Disease Control Prevention, an estimated 30,000 to 62,000 patients die from infections related to the use of central line catheters. The unit-based program helps prevent central line catheter infections and has already been implemented in 100 ICUs located throughout Michigan.
