Medicare no-pay for preventable conditions start date arrives

October 1 has arrived: Beginning this month, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) no longer reimburses for specific preventable conditions and medical errors, the Washington Post reports.
Now, Medicare will no longer pay hospitals for additional care caused by their errors, and will also prohibit billing patients for said costs. It has been estimated that, prior to October 1, Medicare paid for over half of all healthcare-associated infections (HAI).
