Hospitals use new teams to fight MRSA

Teams of pharmacists, infectious disease specialists and microbiologists are spearheading the fight against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) by cutting back the use of antibiotics, the Wall Street Journal reports.

These teams, called “antimicrobial stewardship programs,” watch hospital use of specific antibiotics and limit use when it is discovered that certain antibiotics are losing effectiveness against infections.
