Unattended patient dies in North Carolina facility
Accreditation Connection, August 22, 2008
A patient left in a chair at a North Carolina hospital for 22 hours died, the Associated Press reports.
Staff did not feed the 50-year-old patient or help him to the bathroom during that period, an investigation released earlier this month by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) states.
The incident threatens funding to the facility, Cherry Hospital of Goldsboro, NC, as it follows an earlier incident in which a physician punched a patient after the patient bit him.
