Michigan hospital association approves plan for non-payment of never events
Accreditation Connection, July 11, 2008
The Michigan Health & Hospital Association Board of Trustees has announced a new initiative in which hospitals will not seek payment for 11 specific adverse events.
The new policy states that Michigan hospitals and health systems will establish a Patient Safety Organization that will collect and analyze medical error and near miss data, as well as implement policies to prevent errors. Hospitals will, under this initiative, not request payment for specific serious adverse events from government healthcare programs or private health insurance plans.
