Woman dies unassisted in New York psychiatric emergency room
Accreditation Connection, July 3, 2008
Surveillance footage from the psychiatric emergency department at Kings County Hospital shows a 49-year-old patient fall to the floor and die unassisted after waiting for more than 24 hours in the ED, the Associated Press reports.
The patient, Esmin Green, went ignored by other patients and security guards before collapsing to the floor, where she lay for more than an hour before a staff member noticed and called for help.
The New York Health and Hospitals Corporation, which runs Kings County Hospital, has fired six staff members as a result of the incident.
