NY Medicaid program to stop reimbursements for 'never events'

The New York State Medicaid program has announced it will, beginning in October, no longer reimburse hospitals for 14 “never events” or avoidable hospital complications and errors.

Never events are defined by multiple national quality measurement organizations, and include such events as wrong-site or wrong-side surgery, medication errors, foreign objects left behind after surgery, and others.
